We just recently purchased this car from my sister. Epc light came on and took it to our normal mechanic. He said the starter is going bad needs to be replaced. Well, hubby decided to ignore him and keep driving it. In the mean time... car would start up fine and drive down the road a few miles and shut off. While still going down the road. Since car is moving it pop starts but rpms are higher and epc light comes on. But it will continue to go down the road. The light is annoying to be on. This slowly starts getting worse and then all of the sudden starter stops. So we take it to have new one installed. Car starts again but epc light comes on instantly . Car is still driving but it is constantly shutting off and pop starting down the road. Took it to autozone and the code.they gave was for a speed sensor. Any. Ideas ?

I believe there's two speed sensors, one for vehicle speed and one for transmission speed. Wish the code reading narrowed to which so I get another code reading AND check that wiring is intact and they are plugged in well + not corroded connections.

VSS looks like this >

IMO if it's stalling out the vehicle speed sensing would be more likely to be the problem sending incorrect signals and computer makes wrong adjustments to the engine. I think both are mounted right on the transmission.

My guess is a transmission speed sensor is possibly to set off a light to shift but don't know these cars well,
