2001 grand am egine knock	Sign In

hey i have a v4 grand am and recently had a knocking noise in the engine, wondering if this is something to do with the the valves.rocker arms, cam shaft, push rods, or any bearings..

would be a big help if someone can help with this asap

also i was told about a engine flush with possible just using high quality oil and filling the gas tank with a premium fuel would this work

The hard parts like the lifters bearings etc that you mentioned are not so common.

If in doubt get the oil pressure checked and if this has gone on a while and that's it it's trouble

I'm going to suggest that you get some pro help before you may need a whole new engine. Hope it's just something silly but your post was scary, T

it only started sunday and i just wanted to know if there are anysimple things, ive read that it could be a collapsed lifter

but i think i might get the pressure check

possible any other suggestions... im probably going to upgrade oil to see what it is and possible do a round of premium fuel. that should give better idea of what it is

It's real hard to describe noises and this is the only site I know of that tries hard at it. A lifter, push rod, rocker arm should be a ticking sound. You said "knock" which is a deeper more serious problem.

the deep knocking sounds are usually the lower end of your engine and sound like it's out of oil. You might be able to cover this with heavy oil but the damage is probably already there.

Products like STP will thicken oil but a cold engine won't like it, T

its more like a clicking sound its quite on reg engine operation.
but it really heard during acceleration.
