I replaced the oilcooler, and head gaskets, 158,000 miles. not sure I got the coolant lines right at the block. hoses from and to heater core, and the coolant fill tank- Its over heating, and boiling back into overflow tank. does the overflow tank connect at one of the two side by side inlets below the crossover housing? and the heater hose on the crossover?

just getting it all back together- will water as coolant make it overheat? I drove it 15 miles and it was at normal temp- fans running, when I came to stop, in parking lot started overheating. Have stopped and waited for cooldown, added water after it boiled out of overflow tank, ran a bit hot on the way back- ran heater to remove some heat, was hot as i stopped, and boiled out again.

IMO water only as a quick test isn't the overheat problem. Probably just not full if all else is right. Why did it need this work and what was wrong before you started?
Plenty of variables as you should have sent heads out, inspected all surfaces and put all items back where they were,

I doubt it. Different year, different IP, different part of the country.
