This problem seems to be getting way out of hand, and I have dumped several thousand dollars into mechanics now trying to resolve this issue, to no avail.

It began when my car started to sputter a little here and there for no apparent reason. Gradually, over a period of about a month or so, it got more and more frequent to the point where it was sputtering almost every half a mile or so. Ultimately, it just stalled and died on the highway, and would not start again.

Took it to the shop. A few hundred dollars later, it works like a charm again. I believe he said something about the cam sensor. I wouldn't know anything about any of this.

About 20 days later, it sputtered again. At first only once or twice here and there. And once again, it gradually began to get worse and worse over a period of a few weeks, until finally it left me stranded about an hour from my mechanic. I had it towed to him. it was the cam sensor again, but this time something else was broken in the process, and another several hundred dollars gone.

Good as new it seemed, I drive away, and low and behold, about 3 weeks go by before I start noticing the sputtering once again... And as usual, it starts out with only a few sputters here and there, and then after a period of about 2 weeks or so, it is a constant issue until sputtering and stalling is the only thing the car does. This time I managed to barely drive it into the mechanic, he takes it for a test drive around the parking lot, sputtering and jumping all the way around.
Again, he replaces the cam sensor, and the problem is solved.

Several weeks later, I was about to move from FL to VA, and was terrified that my car would not make it to the Orlando auto train, and of course, the last few days before I left, it started to sputter once or twice here and there.

I take it to the shop, he runs a test on it, tells me he is sorry he can't find anything, and I should be fine.

Luckily I made it to the auto train, and the car made it to VA ok. But 3 weeks after I got here, the sputtering began to increase and get out of hand again. I take it to a mechanic here, and he tells me it is the cam sensor. I explain to him the problems I have had with this, and he tells me that if it starts again to bring it back, and they will see if they can find what underlying problems it may have.

Well, of course, it has already started to sputter again a few times, and I can guarantee you in about 3 weeks, my car will be sputtering and stalling every 30 seconds.

The sputtering seems to be sporadic. It happens when I am accelerating, sitting still, on an incline, and it happens whether I am moving fast or slow.

Obviously there is not an abundance of bad cam sensors being thrown into my car. Is there anyone here who knows what is causing this to happen?! I can't afford to keep dumping money into this thing.

Thanks

Someone needs to examine these bad cam sensors a little closer to find out what is happening to them. What I'm suspecting is the camshaft is moving around too much and damaging the sensor.
