2001 Mazda Tribute ABS issues

3.0L V6
~94,000 miles
I just replaced the rotors and pads on the front tires and immediately this problem started happening. For the first 20 seconds or so of car movement, the ABS is extremely touchy and will 'vibrate' (activate) on even slight brake pedal compression on any terrain (gravel, blacktop). After the 20 seconds of it doing this, the ABS light comes on and it deactivates. To be sure, I tested it in a controlled environment where it would normally begin operating. No luck. To be clear, the process occurs every time the car starts.
Things I have tried/checked so far:
-I completely re-did the steps of replacing the pads and rotors to check for any visible signs and to make sure the installation was thorough.
-Thinking it was an integrated computer issue, I figured I would disconnect the battery to see if anything 'reset'.
- Fluid levels are good

It's going to be an issue with one of the speed sensors and it's relationship to the tone ring. If the ring is on the rotors, that is likely the cause. Many of the Chinese aftermarket rotors are not built correctly.

Check your tone rings that are mounted to the axle shafts. Seen many that split causing the ring to spin on the shaft. If it is 4wd, check the back ones too.

This is well beyond my expertise, but am looking forward to giving it a go. I've researched for images to see exactly what it is that I need to look for. Will get back with you folks. Thanks!

Follow-up:
Wow, that was incredibly simple. Thanks to both of you for the advice. The tone ring wasn't set evenly on the axle shaft. A slight tap with a screw driver lined it right up. This was the solution.
If anyone wants to amuse me, I do have some further observations:
- The tone ring is not damaged (cracked), but it seemingly just floats there. I'm not so confident that this won't happen again; a tap put it in place and a small nudge moved it back. After several miles on varying terrain, it's still in working order however.
- I located the sensor and am curious how exactly it detects anything from the tone ring.
Like I said, this is now resolved. Just curious. Thanks again!

The teeth on the sensor indicator rotate past the stationary sensor at wheel speed. As the teeth pass the sensor, a digital input signal is generated. The control module uses the input to compute the speed of each wheel.

The tone ring shouldn't move at all. It is pressed on the CV housing and if it can be moved with a nudge, it must have a crack that you missed. Which wheel? You can actually buy just the ring instead of the whole axle from the dealer.

Thanks for that info Hammer Time.
Discretesignals: front passenger side. I'll look again to be sure, but did check thoroughly. Might also check the others to see of their behavior. It almost seemed like the ring was (slightly) too big for the axle. How difficult is it to get one on? We talking about tamping it in or sliding?
I'm still amazed that I've never noticed 'em before on mine or other vehicles. I went in thinking I'd never find the thing, and bam.
