2001 Ford Taurus water pump installation Sign In

Hello all, I have a 2001 Ford Taurus that I'm going to put in a water pump. My question is it's calling for the bolts to be torqued large diameter bolts(M6) 15 to 22 and small diameter bolts(M8) 71 to 106 in-lbs. I do not have a torque wrench and am trying to find one for in-lbs, can I use the ft-lbs torque wrench.? Most of the ones I see are in ft-lbs. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated because youall have helped me so much in the past. Thank you

I suppose the specs you got for the larger bolts are in foot pounds. As to the inch pound conversion, divide by 12. That will get you close.

Yes the Haynes manual said Torque specs are ft-lbs unless otherwise indicated ane the large diameter bolts just said 15 to 22 so I figured ft-lbs also. Thank you much for the information

You will have a hard time finding a foot pound wrench that will go that low. You may be able to get one on a loan a tool program at an auto parts house like Autozone, Advance or Pep Boys.

I took a closer look and it appears that there is a torque strut behind the alternator. Is this some kind of engine brace? Does anyone know if I am to remove it or not? There isn't a whole lot of clearance room to work with and the Haynes manual makes no reference as to this. Should I remove the alternator? Please help me if you can Thank you
