Alright. 2001 Ford Taurus with 200k miles with the dual overhead cam engine. Cars misfiring only on cylinder 5 and as I like to try and fix things since I have a newer car I can always drive here's what I have done to fix it with zero luck All are new Coil pack Plugs and wires Fuel injector in cylinder 5 O2 sensors Vacuum checked and is not leaking Fuel filter was changed about a year ago I even changed the wire to cylinder 5 again for good measure Car will only misfire when idling whether it's in drive neutral reverse or park. Drives down the road like a million dollars. If I'm at a light and I put a little gas on it and raise the RPM's to 1'000 it will not misfire. Only with no gas on it at idle. Drives perfect. Missing at cylinder 5 religiously at idle with no extra gas on it. What could cause this as I'm just clueless now. If it was compression it should all the time am I right? Help a man out if you can. Done throwing parts at it.

Probably would be a good idea to do a compression test and also a cylinder leak down test. A valve sealing issue could cause those symptoms. A leaking valve will make a misfire more apparent at idle speeds. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Not a clue on how to do the leak down test. Also don't have the right tools for that. If brought to the dealer for diagnosis would they have to do that and will they actually do it as a diagnosis is only about $100. Seems like a lot of work for $100.

If you take it to the dealer, they will start out with 1 hour of labor for diagnosis. If they run into a problem and need more diagnostic time, they should call you. It depends on who is troubleshooting it and which direction they want to take. You definitely should tell the tech what you have done so far. Normally, the first thing is to do a relative compression test if you find that spark and fuel is good. You can also switch it around because all paths lead to the same place, usually. You could also call around some of the reputable independent shops, not chain stores, and see if you can get a competitive price. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
