2001 Chevy MalibuLS 3.1l randomly overheating	Sign In

Recently I had a car given to me and on the 35 minute drive home everything went fine at a constant 70MPH, the next day it started to overheat, so I took it to a friend and they replaced the Thermostat and the Water pump and after that it was fine again, but today on the drive home it randomly got hot again, I can give additional information if it is needed as I am not too sure what all could cause that

If you are losing your heater when the overheating occurs I would suggest having the cooling system checked to make sure there isn't any exhaust gases getting in there.

Are you having to add any coolant???

Yeah I have had to add coolant beacuse it ends up spitting it all out when it overheats, and I haven't really checked to see if the heater runs when it overheats, I will make sure to check that next time it happens and get back to you on that ASAP

What are the ambient temps you are in? If you can stand it run the defrost or heater full blast and when heat quits you are boiling or way too low on coolant or exhaust gases are getting into cooling system which would mean head gasket issues which is why Sidom asked to check for gases in coolant reservoir would be best or if a tad low at radiator if this model has a cap on radiator.

Do fans come on?
