I have a 2000 chevy ck2500 4x4 with the vortec 350. It has 134k miles and if the truck don't work I don't work. I bought it new and i have had all the work done on it. So the problem is that when I first start it up and put it in drive, and hit the gas it revs to 3k rpm but it only goes 20 mph. I let off the gas and let it fall back to idle, hit the gas to the floor again and still only get 20mph. Let off again and let it idle and it runs fine. It happens alot more when its really hot and when its really cold out. i had new wires, plugs, and cap installed.Replaced fuel filter twice. Had trans fluid and filter changed. New egr valve. could the cats be clogged. I need to know where to look next. Thank you.

Does the transmission feel like it is slipping or is it not shifting to the next gear? Difficult to determine what you are actually meaning in your post. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

it shifts fine. just right after start up i can push the pedal to the floor and the truck will only rev to 3000 rpm and only go 20 mph. but after a few times of putting the pedal to the floor and letting off it runs fine.

I don't think a restriction in the exhaust would be there one minute and not the next. Is the check engine light on? Does the engine feel like it is missing or breaking up when it doesn't want to go past 3K? Will the engine not go past 3K with the transmission in park? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

no light. the engine does sputter when its doing this. when it is in park it still will only hit 3000rpm with the pedal to the floor.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check it. Should be 60-66 psi. There is a test port on the larger pipe that goes into the fuel injector in the middle of the intake. Follow the larger pipe towards the rear of the intake manifold and you'll see the test port. Screw a gauge in and watch the fuel pressure when your problem is going on. That fuel injection system is critical when it comes to fuel pressure. The engine will miss (lose power) and might not run if the fuel pressure isn't at 60-66 psi.
