2000 Toyota Solara A/C belt squealing at low speeds Sign In

Hey guys, let me tell you a little about the problem. I have a V6 2000 Toyota Solora SE I believe. Around 140k mileage. When I bought it about 2 years ago the A/C wouldnt blow cold so my uncle and I put some coolant in the compressor or whatever. I don't remember when the problem started exactly, and it may have been there as long as I could run the a/c after that.

But basically, my A/C runs fine, blows cold air, no problems there, if I'm idling there is either no noise or a slight noise. But when I pull out from a stop sign or red light and pick up speed the squealing belt makes A LOT of noise, and will continue to do so until I (a) either turn the a/c off (which the noise stops instantly) or (b) get up past approximately 45 mph and the noise just stops and the a/c works fine. I want you all to know the A/C works fine throughout this, its just the noise that is the problem. Also the car tends to "bog" down a little bit when pulling out and accelerating when this squealing is going on.

Hopefully this is a simple/cheap fix. I need my A/C because it's going to be a scorching summer! Thanks guys!

Sounds like you either have a belt problem or the A/C compressor is starting to seize up from excessive pressure, probably the latter. You need to get that check ASAP of the price is going to jump sky high is you keep using the A/C that way.

As HT just said - get right on this. Engine bogging and squealing belt is a strong sign the compressor is seizing up. It's costly enough but worse if you wait,

Ahhh! Well thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I will be taking this to the shop as soon as I get paid again. No A/C for me in the meantime...

Good - perhaps plain disconnect compressor and safely tie wire to clutch away. If belt breaks all hell could break loose on top of the troubles!

It is okay to drive as long as I don't run my A/C thought right?

You should unplug the compressor because it is programmed to run with the defroster and some other modes also.
