200 ranger 6cyl 4L auto 45,000 original miles only. Was township owned and basically sat in a garage and wasn't driven a lot. Bought it about a year ago. This has been happening for maybe 7 months, very rarely, but I don't want it to get worse. I start up the truck and drive like 5 minutes without really stopping no problems, and then I hit my usual traffic light and when I stop, the truck hums, sounds sort of like a dog whining or humming or something, a constant humming sound, then it stalls out real quick, it gives about a second of that rumbling sound before something stalls out and then it stalls. I put it in park and turn the key and it starts right up. I had a 98 camry that had an idle air control valve problem sort of like this with stalling at stops but because of the humming sound I don't think it's the idle air control. I don't think it's idle air control valve because I can fix the problem by hitting the gas pretty hard when the humming sound starts. Sometimes it hums when I slow down, sometimes it doesn't. It only stalls when the hum happens first. Any ideas? thanks. my dad might have a code scanner if that helps.

This dependably stalls like that and you don't have a check engine light or equivalent icon illuminated? Does the bulb to the warning light work? It about has to have a code to help or at least one pending so get it read, T

Can you record the humming noise your hearing and upload it to a video hosting site and then paste the link in here? Could be a hooter. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
