I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, with the 3.4 V6, with around 170,000 miles on it. It has been running fine for months, never acted weird on me. Twice in the last 2 weeks while my sister was using it, she said the gauges would all drop to the bottom while driving. And once it wouldn't start for my Mom and she wiggled the key, moved the wheel, while holding the automatic shifter and it started but acted weird and idled weird. The next day, I used it for work, it started fine, drove fine all day. I got off work, cashed my check at Walmart, and when I came back out, nothing. No lights, no cranking, nothing. I tried all the "tricks" that worked for my mom, and got no results. When I tried to take it out of gear with my foot and the brake, and put it back in gear and start it again, i got a loud, rapid ticking that sounded like it was right above where a passengers feet would be. Also, I found out on accident last week, that my key would pull out of the ignition while its started.
The car has been at Walmart for 3 day, I went back and tried the same things today, and tried to jump it, with no results. After i tried to start it a couple times, when i removed the key from the ignition, the key seemed rather hot to the touch.
Please help, I dont know how long I can leave it at Walmart, and my funds are very tight right now. I think its the igniton switch.
