2000 Lincoln Towncar - clicking noise Sign In

When you turn your turn signal on, there is a clicking which is normal. When you turn it off, it continues to click, fast, slow, very sporadic. The strange thing about it is that when you step on the brake, it stops. How weird is that? Any suggestions.
At one point, I was told it was a relay.

Re: 2000 Lincoln Towncar - clicking noise Sign In

The clicking likely is a relay; that’s called, (in this application) a signal, hazard or combination signal/hazard flasher unit/relay. What usually causes the clicking to continue after the switch(s) are turned off; are intermittent shorted signal light switches, hazard light switch or wiring harness; is unintentionally taking the relay to power or ground?
It’ll mean performing circuit tests with a multi-meter and or a scan tool; to find out who is doing what to who. But someone with a working knowledge of the system(s) and a wiring diagram; should be able to figure this out for you.
