2000 Jimmy runs hot + possible coolant leak? Sign In

For most of this summer my Jimmy has been running too warm at idle....Not hot enough for the check engine light to come on, but around the 230 degree area...and sometimes when I shut off the engine I can hear the coolant boiling. Sometimes it doesn't start to boil until after I turn off the engine. Now a bout a week or two ago, the interior of my car has started to smell like coolant, and a few days ago I started getting a cold fog out of the vents almost every time I use the air conditioning, mostly when I am taking off from a stop. I have had to add water to the radiator tank a couple times over the summer...I am wondering if maybe my heater core is leaking? Is that something I can get to from under the hood, or would I have to pull the dash? Thanks for your input.

Sounds like a heater core problem. Temp fix is to cut the gasket on radiator cap that allows pressure. That only till you can get this fixed. Keep system full of water or coolant and adjust it properly when fixed, T
