I have a 2000 Jetta 2.5 gls with about 200 k miles. (yeah, I know it's a lot) Car was driving fine. I parked it and later the same day, went out and it would not turn over. There is a small very faint click. The lights do not dim when I try to start it and the headlights are very bright still. the oil was changed about 2,000 miles ago. I checked oil and it was low but not empty. I added oil. I have tried jumping it off. I have tried looking at fuses. I have checked the gas tank. A friend said he checked the battery cables and fuses on battery. Although the fuse test was by my very untrained female eyes, but will have a meter tomorrow. Wink I am overwhelmed here. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much in advance...Smiles, Samantha Unimpressed

You sure this has a 2.5L and not a 2.8L? Manual or Auto? Do you have any aftermarket equipment installed such as an alarm system?

The first thing to do with a no crank condition is to make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. If they are clean and tight, it is a good idea to have the battery load tested just to be sure it is good. Once that is done, you'll have to make some electrical checks at the starter relay cavity, but we need to know the correct engine size.

Another trick if you have a good battery and clean/tight connections at the starter motor and the battery is to tap on the starter motor with a hammer while someone holds the key in the start position. If the starter takes off when you tap on it, then you should look at the starter itself as the cause.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
