I've been having trouble with my Impala not starting up right away. It would also sometimes die on me after trying to take off from stopping at a light or when making a turn. Usually it would start right up normally after the failure but last night, I found myself stranded. The car didn't respond to attempts to jump it off and I noticed there was quite a bit of oil on the starter. Could that be the cause of my issues?

You probably need to test the fuel pressure first, assuming it is cranking but not starting.

Yeah, it's not even attempting to turn over. I had also thought it could be a fuel pump issue but since it's not making even a weak attempt to turn over, my guess is that it is the starter. I even considered a mass air flow sensor issue so I attempted to crank her up with the MAF sensor disconnected but didn't get any different results.

OK, first you need to get your terminology correct.

No Crank means the starter is not turning the engine over.

Crank, no start means the starter is engaging but the engine is not starting

Which is it?

I'm sorry, I thought the contents of my reply made that clear. "The car isn't even make a weak attempt at turning over." So, "no crank" is what I meant by that if that was too vague.

It gets a bit confusing when you start talking about fuel pumps and Mass Air Flow sensors when the car isn't even cranking.

The first step is checking and testing the battery. Once you have a known good battery, then try starting it in neutral so see if it makes a difference.

Tractorboy, you are just confusing people. Please stop answering other peoples questions.

It was finally determined that this car isn't even cranking so the fuel pump has nothing to do with the problem.
