2000 Ford Fiesta
1.25 Liter Engine
115,000 miles on it

The car won't turn over or start at all.
A couple weeks ago, the key started acting up a bit. It wouldn't unlock the doors so I'd have to unlock the boot and climb in to unlock all the doors. It would lock fine. Then the key started acting up in the ignition. I could turn it the full way around and nothing would happen. But I eventually got it working after many attempts. Then one day it just stopped working. So I though the problem was the key. I got another one cut and tried it but to no avail. However, it doesn't turn around completely in the ignition and I can lock/unlock the doors with it.
When I turn the key in the ignition, all the lights come on, the wipers, the lights/radio and the windows all work, but the car does not turn over, or even attempt to. The only sound it makes is a faint air sound. It has been in a supermarket parking lot for three days now and I've no clue what to do. I think it may be a motor starter/solenoid/ignition problem although I know nothing about cars so who knows.

Thank you so much for any help you can provide - its much appreciated,
Oisin

Have you confirmed the positive and negative connections in both the charging and staring circuits?

Use one part water and one part baking soda to clean all connections in both circuits.

Use a piece of sandpaper to clean the terminals on the battery till they are clean and shiney silver.

Rule out blown fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links?

Do you have a circuit down to the starter? This can be confirmed with nothing more than a test light. If you do have a circuit to the starter, then give the starter a few taps with a hammer, if the car starts the starter is defective and needs to be replaced.

Pull your battery and have it tested 1st to make sure you are working with a good battery..

Also make sure all the connections are clean & tight
