2000 Corolla, hit a Giant pothole, now my left driver side is low.. Sign In

Hey all!

I need some expert advice before I take any further steps. Just yesterday I was driving down a road I didn't know but going too fast, and I hit a huuge pothole fast.. The tires were fine and I kept going until I got home and realized my rear driver side is significantly lower than the rest of the car. It isn't laying on the tire but VERY close. Here's a picture of what it looks like...

Is it the struts? Is it the spring? I called a place and they quoted me at a new Strut with labor and parts and all at $600. I'm trying to avoid that...

Thanks for your help!

Your going to have to get the car up in the air and have the suspension inspected on that side. Check for bent or broken suspension parts. Could be a blown out strut, but best to do a visual inspection to be sure you don't have something else damaged.

If the strut did blow out, they sell a complete strut assembly that comes with the spring and mount for around $120 each. If you have the right tools and equipment, they aren't that hard to change as an assembly which can save you a bunch of money. If you do one, you should do the other side also.

I think you're going to find more than just a blown out strut unless it broke in half. You have to have a broken spring or axle for the suspension to just fall like that
