1999 toyota solara engine died while driving. HELP!! Sign In

My 1999 toyota solara
4 cylinder 2.2l automatic died while driving.
The car was fine all weekend. I noticed it took a little longer than usual to start up Sunday morning. I drove for about 2 minutes then out of no where it started bogging down and even when i pressed the gas it kept sputtering and bogging down until it died (about 10 seconds). Id start it and drive for another minute until it did the same thing. It did it another 2 times and the final time it wouldn't start back up. I did a diagnostic test and the codes came back p1300 and p1310 which said #1 and #3 ignition coil fault. I replaced both coils (they are on different coils) and still didn't start. I replaced the spark plugs and wires and same. It has plenty of juice, just wont turn on. I even sprayed starting fluid into the air box and wouldn't start. I did a compression test and all cylinders came back at 175. The motor was rebuilt a year ago. Can someone please help!! I would rather fix it my self rather than send it to toyota to fix.

Have you checked to see if it has spark. The spark should be able to jump a 3/4 inch gap. They sell adjustable spark testers. If you clear the trouble codes, do they come back?

I don't know where you got your code definition from but those codes do not refer to coils. They indicate an issue with the igniter circuits. The igniter is what Toyota calls the Ignition Control Module. Most likely a wiring problem between the Igniter and the ECM.

The igniter on this design is built into the ignition coils. The ignition coils are a waste spark design. I'm not sure on this design if IGF is lost, the engine won't start.

Need to see if it has spark first. If not, then you'll need to do some ignition coil circuit tests.

The issue is in the igniter control circuit so I would look for shorted wiring between the coils and ECM.
