1999 s10 blazer 4.3 vortec oil pressure loss and driveability issues Sign In

I have a 1999 s10 blazer with 255,000 miles. I have had this vehicle for about two months and have driven it 2500 miles. I check the oil religiously and although it was about a quart , overfilled when I bought it (i drained out the excess), it has never burned or leaked a drop and the oil has looked like brand new for all 3000 miles of use. yesterday, itook off and drove about 3 miles when I noticed a strange power loss and my oil gauge dropped to zero when I took my foot off three gas. I pulled over, shut it off and pulled the stick. plenty of oil in the pan and still clean. fired it up and it was running rough and backfiring a bit. got it home trying to keep oil pressure up to 20. pulled the distributor and no broken gear teeth. n now I have darkness on the stick, probably bearing material. I am assuming my oil pump is bad. is it possible the engine is still ok? I drove it six miles and kept the rpm up so gauge was on 20. also, what is the procedure forty pulling the oil pan?

You have 255K on the engine, you ran it with little to no oil pressure and you want to know if the engine is going to be good?

With that mileage, you had nothing left to the engine before this problem. Bubble gum will only work for so long.

Is the check engine light on? Any trouble codes stored? Usually oil pressure problem won't cause engine backfiring. Your going to lose oil pressure if the engine stalls out.
