1999 Sebring Car dieing issue Sign In

Hello to the forum. I have a Chrysler 1999 sebring Jx with a v6 engine. It has around 150,540 miles on it.

I had bought this car off of craigslist about 4 months ago. Everything seemed great on it until about two -three weeks ago. The first time this happened I just pulled into work and half way into the parking spot I noticed the wheel was stiff and the car was off. So I had to restart it and park. Since then this has been a regular situation, its has been doing it to me mostly at higher speeds of about 50-65mph. But it has died on me at a stop light the other day. What happens is the rpm gauge will bog down, and then drop to the lowest point and then the car quits, and I have to pull over to the side of the road. Sometimes it starts right up, other times it takes a while to get it started. I have changed the fuel filter hoping that was the problem but it still does it, the fuel pump seems to be working. I also cracked the gas cap thinking that maybe it was not venting properly and it still does it. I am at a loss of what it could be, and thought I would ask on here before I took it in to have it looked at. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Start by having your codes scanned and post the exact code numbers up here. Don't think because a fuel pump makes noise or you can made it squirt gas at the rail by pushing the schraeder valve that its working. Could only be making 20 PSI and would squirt at the rail but not fire the motor. But since this isn't doing it all the time you would need to know for sure what is dropping out to cause the stall at the exact time that it happens.

Could it be spark plugs?

Spark plugs themselves wouldn't behave like that!

Stop the nonsense please,

i think you're right, sounds like possible fuel pump. how much gas is in it when it dies? and how long have you been driving when it dies? if low gas or after driving for a while, it could be the pump is bad and cutting out because it's getting hot.
