1999 Opel Vectra - Strange front light

I don't know much about cars but here it goes.
I needed to replace my left headlight because the screw to set its height was broken and the light was facing way down. I bought a new light which is definitely the a matching light, but the difference from the original is that it's the type that can't be connected to the electrical motor that is used to heighten and lower the light from inside the car.
This is how the light was marked on the car part site: Headlight, left, MOD. H7+H7 ELECT/MAN. REG. I bought the MAN version.
I took my new light to a garage and mechanic installed it for me. When I came to pick up the car, the mechanic told me that the light didn't really fit perfectly and I should have bought the one with the connection to the electrical motor. The problem with the light is that the beam is shaped like an eight sideways and faces way up and to the right.
He said that he needed me to return with the car after the weekend so he could rewire the light or something like that. I didn't quite understand what he was talking about but what he implied was that because this was not a perfectly matching light it was more of a hassle to hook it up to the car.
My question is: Is there any other difference between a light with a connection for an electric motor and a manual one which could cause the problem previously mentioned? Or did the mechanic just do something wrong but wouldn't admit it and blamed it on the light?

Admit that I don't know the car at all but know of the idea. You just said you had elecrically adjustable headlights and bought a light for manual. Right there it's the wrong part(s) for exact plug in and fasteners no doubt.
Any place I know of in the States (US) isn't likely to be thrilled with installing parts you purchased on your own. Kind of like bringing your own food to a restaurant, asking them to cook it then complain it isn't right.
Not sure if you can return a part(s) like that but I'd get exact fit part(s) and let the mechanic get parts which is part of the biz everywhere I know of,
