1999 Kia Sephia, 4cyl, 77k miles. Hi guys. This is my son's car. It will start fine, then die. Pressing the accelerator doesn't help. When it dies, if you're giving it gas, it acts likes it's starving for gas. Another problem is one cyl is weak in compression. Approximately 70% of what it should be. With that said, and going by the type car it is, you can understand why i'm asking here and not taking it to a shop. It's just not worth putting much money into. I'm hoping to get it back running good enough to use for a work car. Thanks for any advice you can offer A little background: car was running fine, then got where it wouldn't idle. We added some injector cleaner. Then changed spark plugs. Idled, but still not right. Then it started what it's doing now.

Adding anything to the fuel tank does pretty much nothing. You've got a bad cylinder thaqt you already know about. That should pretty much be the death sentence right there. The other problem could be a fuel pressure issue or even a security problem. Either way, it won't be real cheap. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
