I have been having trouble with my 1999 Ford Ranger for quite a while now. If I am driving down the road the brakes work just fine, but when I am down around 5 mph and I depress the brake pedal it initially feels normal but as it goes to the floor it stiffens up and the wheels start to pull left. Occasionally my ABS light on the dashboard will illuminate and the brakes feel fine after that, they do not pull and the pedal feels good. Also, when I am pulling into parking when I have the steering wheel all the way to the right the brakes are STIFF and I cannot brake at all until I let my wheel come out of the turn a little bit. It only does it when I am pulling into a parking spot to the right not the left. I appreciate all advice I can get thank you very much.

  1. check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder
  2. pop the drivers side wheel off and take a look at the brake pads by removing the caliper and inspecting the slides. something is hanging up on the left side causing it to pull left.
  3. get your ABS codes read with a scanner. your front left wheel sensor could be bad giving a faulty signal to the abs controller.

since your abs light is coming on, i would tend to think your looking at #3 but the first two are free and only cost your time.

The brake fluid level is fine, I have replaced the front hardware on both sides and everything came off fine and went back on correctly. I have gone and got the codes read because I have a check engine light, is there a different machine that reads ABS codes? My check engine light was different but I am fixing that problem right now. It was a vacuum leak (large) I found the leak and have the parts on order.. I just can't figure out these dang brakes.

yea its a different tool to read the ABS system.

i believe you can count flashes and cross reference them to get the code.

youll have to do some google searching on finding out how to get the abs light to flash
