1999 Chevy Malibu 2.4L 130,000 miles Hello, I recently had to replace my windshield wiper assembly and motor on my 99 Chevy Malibu. After installing the new assembly and motor my wipers run fine, but they always stop in the up position now. I have tried playing with the assembly with no luck. I also have tried repositioning the wipers numerous times and still they stop in the up position. Everything I have found by looking for solutions online suggest that the problem is caused by a worn or corroded assembly. I know this isn't the case with my car because the assembly is brand new as is the motor. I would greatly appreciate if anyone has a solution for this problem. Thanks you.

Take the wiper arms off. Run the wiper motor on high for 5 secs and then turn the wiper switch off. Re-install your wiper arms and see if that resolves your problem. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I tried your advice Discretesignals, but still they stop in the upright position. I even exchanged my wiper motor that I just bought for a new one thinking it was faulty and they still stop in the upright position. I am about out of ideas on this.

The original problem was the wiper transmission. I replaced it correctly I believe. I originally thought it was the motor so I also replaced that. The motor has a Pulse Board Module. I still cannot get the wipers to stop in the correct position. I will try to post a picture of how I have the windshield wiper transmission and motor installed. I am at a complete loss on this issue. I tried to attached a picture of how I have the transmission and motor installed but I couldn't figure it out. This link will take you to the picture. The windshield wipers themselves aren't installed in the photo.

You still have the old motor and board? If the old arm is still on the old motor, you can see what position the arm should be in when the motor is parked. Sometimes the motor isn't parked when it comes out of the box and when the linkage is connected it's not in the right position. Just noticed that the aftermarket motors, except AC Delco, don't come with the linkage arm, so the arm could be installed on the replacement motor shaft in the wrong position. With the new motor disconnected from the transmission, plug it in and turn on the wiper switch to high and then back to off. This parks the motor itself. Then connect your linkage arm, so it is in the same position as the old motor's arm when it is parked. If you cored the old motor, you want the motor linkage arm in position on the splined shaft so the wipers are in their normal parking place. Once you get it in the right position tighten the nut. That makes sense. Unfortunately I traded the old motor in (It was burnt out anyway from the old transmission anyway) when I got the new one. I will try to get the linkage in the correct position by hand. I will let you know how it works out.

Remember park the motor. Set your wipers, so they are in the park position on the windshield. Then connect your linkage arm to the motor shaft. Then pray and hope the wipers don't go down and try to wipe the hood (joking). Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

In fact before you turn on the wipers after re-positioning the linkage, take the arms off just in case it does go the wrong way. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
