1998 sunfire door latch problem!	Sign In

I have a 98 sunfire 2 door, i need to change out the door latch. i used a torx tool to take the bolts out the latch. i removed the panel. the window tract seems to be in the way of pulling out the door latch. what should i do to make this stop? it also seems to be connected to the inside door handle, inside door lock, outside door handle.

im not sure what my next step should be just let me know!

I don't have specifics for the exact car but the latch would have rods and funky plastic "bails" to prevent them from falling out of their respective attaching points. May have wires too and a plug nearby - can't know but just unplug and proceed. You should be able with the rods removed and some tilting even in the tight space get it out and new one in to reattach the items again. To interior handle, power lock actuator motor (if equipped) and to outside latch in some manner.

I doubt you need to move the window runner but it's possible. If it gives you enough trouble, try a body shop tech for help as they are likely to deal with junk inside doors more often than regular techs but either should be able to assist if needed.

Heres a tip that I have given to my friends and neighbors . Buy a set of different colored markers . Mark each rod and it's matching hole . Each pair a diff color , because when you get them all undone they will all look alike.
