1998 ford escort engine noise and gas question Sign In

Hii

So i dont know anything about cars and had two questions about mine before I head to the garage.

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 sport, 2.0 L engine, with only 56,000 kilometers on her. For about 2 weeks now she's making loud engine noises when I hit the gas (accelerating, going up hill, etc.). I had the oil filter changed about 4-5 months ago but other than that she hasn't needed any maintenance until now. What can the problem be and how much will it cost me?

My second question: how much gas should my car be drinking?? In one week I travel about 600km (I travel 400+km on the weekend to go see my partner). I fill her up 2-3 times weekly. It costs me $310 per month for gas. I THINK she takes about 25-30L full. I know I travel much more than the average person.. so it's to be expected that I need more gas but is this a normal amount of gas for my habits??

Thanks lots.

Can't tell you what is wrong with your vehicle or tell you how much it would cost to repair it. We would have to be there to inspect and try to isolate the source of the noise. Maybe you have an exhaust leak?

As for gas consumption, have you calculated your average fuel mileage? Is the check engine light on? Do you see any fuel leaks under the vehicle? Many factors will affect fuel economy. There are many website that will give you information on what items can affect fuel economy and how to calculate your fuel mileage.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
