I recently installed an hid light kit in my 98 dodge durango. 250,100 miles, 5.2 engine. Anyways, overnight I killed the battery because I installed it wrong, I hooked up the black to the negative battery terminal instead of grounding it to the chasis. Which I believe completed the circuit to keep it ON instead of going through the relay harness. So, I jump started my vehicle with my girl fitness car just fine and drove about 12 minutes to work. I disconnected the battery when I got there to prevent it from happening again. Figuring I would mess with it after work. It would not start at the end of the day, even with a jump. I disconnected the HID kit completely and the next day I got it jump started and let it run for about a half hour, 45 minutes. I tried to start it back up immediately after turning the vehicle off and got 1 single click noise. Now I can get the vehicle to jump but it only stays started when I apply the accelerator. As soon as I take my foot off it dies again. I'm thinking bad battery? Like I destroyed it with the light kit maybe or could be a coincidence and it's a faulty battery. The battery is about 2 months old.

That very well may be what I've done but I don't know. I just checked the battery at advanced auto parts and the battery is good. I jump started my truck but again, it only stays alive when my foot is on the gas. Sometimes my power systems work when the key is on and other times they do not.
I forgot to add: shouldn't there be a fuse protecting the computer?

No, there is no protection from frying a computer.

Problem resolved. It was a bad connection to the battery. Man do I feel silly.
