My wife's 1998 Accord Lx 4dr 2.3L 4cl has two stripped wheel studs on the front left. (Somebody didn't properly tighten the wheel before driving on it Mad ). On one of these, the lug nut is still on the stud, it spins but doesn't actually come off. Non-standard wheels enclose the nut more than on a stock system. How much of a project is it going to be to get the nut off and change the studs? Is anything going to need to be removed behind the wheel to give room for the stud to be pulled out? The parts are cheap I know, I'd just like an idea of the labor involved before I take it in.

That could be a very big problem and you will likely damage the wheel to get it off. Trying to split the nut with an air chisel is probably you're only option.

(Edit: my reply text didn't seem to show up.)

Thanks for the reply. I went out to make sure there really wasn't any budge at all to that stuck nut. And I somehow sheered about an inch the stud off, still stuck in the nut. I didn't think I cranked it that hard. Is this a good thing because it now simplifies changing the stripped studs, or a bad thing because I may have potentially done more damage?

Getting the wheel off is the issue. if you can get the wheel off without damaging it, the stud can be replaced but it can't be done until you get the wheel off.

Just to add: If the whole stud is spinning with a lug nut on it the hub would need to go. The older than dirt rule of thumb was that if more than one had an issue the hub had to go and a new one to replace it. Not good to try to fake it with tricks IMO if suggested I don't like the idea of that - too important to not do right,

I've welded in a few studs.
