1998 Ford Taurus died while driving. It wouldn't start back up. Had it towed back to house so I could look at it the next day. Maybe a problem with fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator? Tested the pressure on fuel line and it only raised to around 15 to 20 (intial turn on). Turned the key on again and it raised higher every time until pressure was normal (29-46). Do you think it could be anything else other than faulty fuel pump?

It does sound like a weak fuel pump but have you checked the filter also? Might be plugged and slowly letting the pressure build. Worth a check. Luck

What is the pressure when the car is running? Does the pressure drop when it is accelerated? If it does, I would go with a pump. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed> You might want to do that first.

The pressure didn't drop when it accelerated. The pressure was around 38 when the car was running. I don't know when the fuel filter was last changed. I bought it as a used car for my son. Sounds like to me I should change it first before I get a new fuel pump.

Thanks
