My wife's 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 Cool Coupe seems to do great for the most part, until the engine has ran for about 30 minutes, and only happens with the A/C on, the car at idle will drop down to about 500rpm and kinda stutters or has rough idle, it is a manual transmission, and it almost dies through 1st and 2nd gears, sometimes it is hard to make it through an intersection safely, if I turn the A/C off, it does fine. Not sure if this helps, but the car does not do it until you have drove it for awhile, it does fine at first with the A/C running, only after the engine has heated up. Once the Car is past 1st and 2nd gears it seems to go down the road with no issues until we have to stop and go again. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks

This must have codes ready to read even if check engine light isn't lit. Post #s. I'd begin with that as by design it's supposed to cover loads and deal with cold thru operating temps all are computer controlled,

First eliminate all vacuum or air leaks in the system. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Thank you, I live out in the country so I will try to make it to town today or tomorrow and get the codes read, I didn't think about that since there was not an engine light, but certainly worth the shot! Thanks

If you are ride from places do pick up IAC compatible cleaner, throttle body cleaner or also called carb cleaner. If really a pest for parts and can return them pick up that IAC as that's high on the list.
Many parts outlets and some others will read codes for free. General objective is to sell parts so know the #s and try not to be oversold with parts as the code(s) don't say exactly what parts if anything shows at all.
No light on there could or should be codes pending with the behavior,

Cleaned IAC, and found that most of the bolts were loose on the intake as well, tightened what I could get to, but I believe it best if I get a new intake gasket and do a good service on this part next weekend, thanks for the input

That would cause issues for sure. Take a hard look at what you need to get at all bolts in case you need some funky socket or whatever to get them all. Those should have a torque and order spec that I don't have. I or someone can hunt that info down as needed,

Thanks, I will check into more when I get the gasket, and go ahead and get codes read too, I will certainly need an adaptor of sorts as a few of the bolts I could not reach with what I have. I will reply if I can not find the correct specs, you have been a huge help sir!!
