1997 chevy malibu...starts but wont stay running

97 malibu cranks up initially but doesn't stay on a full second . also , none of the instrument cluster comes to life at all . Car would be running and then in the last two or three weeks , as you drive to a red light or in a parking lot at a slow coast ... it would die out . would crank right back up though . Now it won't stay on longer enough to push the gas pedel .

Sounds like you could be having a problem with the dash cluster which will effect the Passlock Security system. You will need a Tech 2 scan tool to diagnose it properly.
