My father in law bought a pickup with a 2.3L engine that has 163000 mlies. It does not have enough power to pull it down the road in 5th gear. The previous owner had a timing belt put on. Local mechanic put on new plugs(8), wires, air filter, fuel filter, checked fuel pressure at each injector. They were from 21 to 38 psi. Checked the belt for the cam timing which seem ok. Unhooked the exhaust to check for a plugged converter. Seems to have good flow. There is an ignition module that he said seems not attached to the mount. Is that a grounding issue?
Computer shows a code 171"lean on bank one". Could this be a problem with the oxygen sensors?

With the amount of miles on the clock, you may want to start by checking compression on all 4 cylinders. Note the "first puff" on the guage. A solid 50 lbs on the first revolution is a decent sign. By the 3rd and final revolution, you want to be in the ball park of 145 psi, if my memory serves me correctly. Post back with the results of the compression test and we can proceed from there.
