1996 mazda 626 dies when put in park

1996 mazda 626, i recently bought this car and need some help. when the car is put in park it dies immediatley, and while stopped idols extremely rough, on acceleration it acts like it is going to die then will accelerate quickly. do you think this could be the oxygen sensor. once the car is running it is fine. the check engine light is on
