1995 opel astra 180i not startin Sign In

Hi guys I have a opel astra that will not start. It seems as it is over fueling. As you try and start it then take the spark plugs out they are wet with petrol. When I turn the ignition on it sounds like petrol is constantly flowing through the fuel rails. Any help will be greatly appriacated.

Having no spark or no compression would give you the same symptoms.

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Thanks for the response. The fuel pressure is at 3bar wich is correct to the book. The car has spark. Compresion test was done. The fuel pressure drops when the cars ignition is off.

What were the compression readings?
You're going to have to find out where that fuel pressure is going when it drops by pinching off various locations in the fuel system.

Fuel pressure is 3 bar. Compresion is 6.2:1 for all 4 piston.

That's a compression ratio, not a pressure reading and it sounds too low.

I aswel thought so. I called gm and they say for that model it is correct. When the ignition is on you can hear petrol running constantly through the fuel rails. Its the first time I had heard my car doing that

We don't have that model here so I can't give you any specifics on it but from what I know about fuel, that compression ratio isn't enough to ignite fuel.

Could it by anychance be the fuel pressure regulator. I don't want to take the car to a shop I know most things on a car but I don't have the funds to go to a shop for them to strip the motor.

Sure it could. Pull the vacuum hose off and see if there is any fuel in it.

How can you figure out the compression ratio using pressure readings? Compression ratio is the difference in the volume of a cylinder, including the combustion chamber volume, with the piston all the way down compared to when it is fully up. It might have a lower compression ratio because it is turbo or supercharged.

I checked the compresion with a tester that screws in like a plug it has a digital gauge on it.

Is this reading in PSI, KPA or BAR? We're all in US so our gauges are PSI. If you mean you have 6.2 BAR, thats only 90 PSI and you likely have a blown motor.

Hmmmmm....This does make it harder since we don't have this model over here but a lot of the basics will be the same........ Do you have a way to pull codes?

If the plugs are getting soaked with fuel/petrol, then for some reason the injectors are staying on too long......Since all this fuel is going into the cyls, I would imagine the walls are getting washed and you may be losing some compression because of that...

Is there any fuel mixing in with the oil? pull the stick & check your level & see what it smells like.....
