1995 honda civic bogging while accelerating

I have a 1995 Honda civic 1.6 ex.158,000 miles. The problem randomly started happening one day on way home. When I accelerate the car, it will bog in certain rpm ranges. It'll happen between 1500 to about 2500 rpms then runs fine. It also happens if I put too much pressure on the gas pedal. Once the car heats up it will bog while idling dropping the needle down low for a second then comes up again. When I accelerate and it bogs I noticed I can let pressure off the pedal and it will run fine. I took it to my mechanic and he couldn't find the problem. He checked the fuel filter, injectors, distributor, and wires/spark plugs. If I drive with a real lite foot on the pedal it won't bog at all. Please help me, I always try to take care of my car.

What is the fuel pressure when it is bogging? Are there any trouble codes being stored in the engine computer?

When I took it to my mechanic he said the only codes showing up were for a distributor. When he changed it out the car ran worse. I've been told many times it sounds like a problem to do with the catalytic converter. They said if I smelt something rusty while it bogged it was that, and sure enough I did smell it. What would u think about that being the problem?

Do you know what trouble code numbers they were?
To confirm a restriction in the exhaust system caused from a plugged converter, broken substrate, or collapsed muffler your mechanic can screw a back pressure gauge into the O2 sensor hole and monitor pressure to see if it has become too excessive.

did you ever figure out what your problem was? i have exactly the same problems as you do. i have a 93 honda civic and i swear we have the same exact symptoms
