GF took her car into a wal-mart to get a basic oil change. When she got it back, noticed that it was slow to accelerate and the check engine light was on. Did the key in ignition method to determine the code and it flashed a 33. Doing some research shows that 33 is for A/C clutch relay circuit. An open or shorted condition detected in the speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits.

Would that at all have an effect on acceleration or why it is now chugging up hills?

BTW. I'm a major newbie with cars but I'm excellent with figuring stuff. Just looking for guidance. Thanks.

I'm assuming you have the 2.5 4 cyl & not the 6 cyl

The a/c relay really shouldn't have any effect on the problem you are having. It's possible the problem is unrelated to the LOF and just started on it's own.

What you can do is go over the areas that were worked on & see if anything looks disturbed. There really isn't anything in the drain plug area, so you shouldn't have to get underneath it. The oil filter sits very close to the dist and there are some wires that could've accidently got in way when removing the filter. Look at the distrib harness real close. Look around the air filter housing and thats really about it....

If you do it take it in to be repaired and it's damage related to the LOF just have the shop document that for you on your reciept..............

Rule out vacuum leaks.
Rule out misfires.
Is the EGR valve functiong properly?
Is the PCV valve functiong properly?
Drive with a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and post the fuel pressure psi readings under different engine loads.
Last major tune-up that included ignition cables and fuel filter was done when?
