1994 Chevy lumina euro 3.1 liter 140,000 won't rev up past 2000 rpms Sign In

This problem all started a week ago when my girlfriend was driving it home from work and it started running rich to the point where it would stall out. I towed it home and replaced the coolant temp sensor, and it rand better but it would surge at idle. I found out the EGR valve was sticking so i took it apart and cleaned. That didn't fix the condition so i brought it to a shop and they said my lower intake manifold gasket was leaking or i had bad o-rings on the injectors. So i canged the intake manifold gasket and all the injector o-rings. That seemed to fix the issue for a while until my girlfriend took it about 2 miles from home and when she started it to leave it wouldn't rev above 2,000 rpms so she couldn't drive faster than 10 mph. I tested the fuel pressure regulator and changed the fuel filter and the oxygen sensor I cut out the catalytic converter because it sounded plugged up, that didn't fix anything. I've also tested the throttle position sensor, tested the MAP sensor, changed out the oxygen sensor, and the computer will not trip a code. Now I am at a loss, I've been told it could be a bad ECU but I don't wanna sink 100 dollars in the car on a hunch. Does anyone out there have any useful insight?

P.S. I know it sounds like mass air flow sensor but this vehicle is not equipped with one.

What are the adaptives doing?

That makes me wonder about all the rest of your so call testing of components.

How do you know it's running rich?
How did you test the MAP sensor, 0/2 sensor, TPS and fuel pressure regulator.

I tested the Map sensor by swapping it out with one in my buddys car because i do not have a vacuum tester which i am buying tomorrow the oxygen sensor tripped a code originally telling me it was sensing a rich mixture, i put a fuel pressure tester on the fuel rail to test the pressure regulator and during operation it read 35 psi at idle and 42 when i opened it up and i pulled off the tps and ran the resistance on it i don't remember the exact range but when i turned it there were no dead spots

This needs to be analyzed using a scan tool and analyzing the sensor data to get a picture of what is going on inside the engine

You do realize it's and obd1 computer it doesn't scan anything it just stores codes and you read them

You do realize that you are completely wrong about that........................

That computer has data stream just like OBD2

How does this engine run at idle?
When it does go passed 2000 rpm does it feel like it is bogging out or is it skipping like as in misfiring?

It runs great at idle and I open it up when its cold and it runs fine but after it warms up it hit 2000 and bogs its not missing it sounds almost choked out

The old T engine needs around 41-47 psi of fuel pressure to run correctly. You should connect a fuel pressure gauge up to the test port and drive it to see what the fuel pressure is when the engine is bogging.

When the engine is cold the coolant sensor is going to tell the computer to injector more fuel, so it runs better cold, but when it gets warmed up and the injector pulse width gets shorter it starts to run like poop. It might idle ok, but lack of fuel pressure or volume will cause the engine to bog out under load.

thats what i did and it ranged 35 to 42 and 42 was the highest it would get when it hit the rev limiter and when it was bogging

When you were checking fuel pressure with the key on engine off, did the fuel pressure hold when the pump turned off?

no it's off the only code it has given me through this whole thing is the oxygen sensor sensing rich mixture

The engine won't rev passed 2K with the transmission in park or neutral?

You should check to see what kind of voltage the MAP sensor is sending to the ECM. You want to back probe the connector at the signal wire which is light green. The signal out with the engine idling should be around 1-2 volts.

T pins are great for back probing connectors. Connect your meter to your pin and put the meter ground to the battery negative. See what the voltage is with the engine idling.

Here is a video on MAP sensors and what to look for:

It fluctuates between 4 and 4.5
