Hello. I have been having a problem with my 1994 Cutlass Supreme ( 40,000 miles) in which the car rumbles and vibrates very loudly; I am sure it is mechanically related and not just a loose door panel or otherwise. I believe it is transmission related as it slips occasionally , and when still , the vibrating is strongest. It just starting slipping and having this issue yesterday; I have already stopped using it out of caution. When going at high speeds though , the vibrating and shaking becomes very quiet. All readings , such as temperature , read fine and no light is on. There have been no symptoms in these past few days , just started doing this. I apologize if I have sounded confusing or unclear , and I would really appreciate any help on the matter. I understand that many things in a car can cause vibrations , but there really is no other symptoms other then the transmission slipping.

1st, make sure trans fluid is full and check if burnt looking and burn odor. If low quickly find the leak and get it properly filled. Low miles or not a trans can go in a flash. Slipping - meaning RPMs go up but car doesn't go faster is a terrible problem to trans unless for some reason a 1/2 shaft is doing the slipping but that's so rare I doubt that. Hope not but doesn't sound good for that trans. If at all possible don't drive it anymore even to get a transmission shop to inspect it in person and make the final diagnosis. So far I think something really failed and would expect a full overhaul to be suggested. Stinks at low miles but it has some age on it too so if otherwise a good car just go for it as it's still less costly than a new car, T

Spent a while researching and testing ; I learned that one of the ignition coils went bad , therefore the problem was a misfiring of the engine( only 4 of the 6 cylinders were operating correctly.) I tested it once I replaced it by driving the car around a while. My term of slipping was wrong , as the car does not go into high RPM at all ,and in fact, after a little bit of driving there was not a single slip , car ran smooth. I think I was just paranoid after driving through all the rumbling and vibrating. I will still get the transmission checked though. Thanks for your help!

Great! Glad you found it. For the record when a trans really slips it's almost always game over for a trans unless fooled by being on ice or something T
