1993 Tracer Key Stuck In Ignition

1993 Tracer Key Stuck In Ignition

I just bought a 94 Tracer as a fixer upper. The prior owner's kid forced the wrong key (the trunk key, I believe) into the ignition and now it's stuck in there. Oddly, it turns and starts the vehicle. However, I would like to get the key out of there, obviously.
I'm afraid if I just pull it out it'll either break or ruin it so that I'll have to involve a locksmith.
Is there a relatively quick and painless way to get this key out and not cause further damage? Please don't respond unless you truly know about this - I don't have a lot of money to put into this car, which is otherwise is very nice condition.

The first thing you should do (assuming you haven't yet) is to insert a skinny metal object (anything that fits and won't break inside ignition) and attempt to lift the tumblers in the lock from the stuck key on the top and *bottom (*double sided key) you can use pliers to help extract the key while manipulating the tumblers,you'd be suprised how durable domestic locks are.Unfortunately if it is the wrong key and you can still start the car then your ignition has already sustained damage to it's position locker.Although I wonder if it is the right key but the key release itself is not working (key release in automatic trans cars is inside out of view,as it only applies to active vehicle positions) that would also require replacment of the key cylinder,but if it is the wrong key jammed in then apply the above technique and maybe a very small amount of wd 40 lubricant for assist,because if it's the wrong key and it turns still,then when the key comes out it will start without a key if the tumblers are damaged or,worse case scenario a new ignition isn't expensive just shop around,or a very inexpensive used ignition will require a key made,that should only cost $5 to $10 unless the key has a chip in it,then it should cost $25 but that price may be hard to find honestly.

P.S. Inexpensive if you do it yourself,some ignitions require more work to remove than others, research the job on the net,or with a repair manual (recommended) see if you want to do it.
