1993 Nissan Sentra -- worth the maintenance costs? Sign In

I heard these little cars can last, and I found one with 56k original miles (elderly owned and she passed away). Unfortunately it never had its 50k mile recommended maintenance. Only things I observed off hand was a clicking when the steering wheel was turned and slight squeaking of brakes. The body is quite weather-worn but I do live in Florida.

So I took it to a mechanic to find it's going to need front brake pads and rotors, rear wheel cylinders, and valve cover gaskets. They also recommended L and R CV axles, oil pressure sensor, major tuneup and fuel injector for a grand total of $1600.

I wouldn't mind putting some cash into it, but since its 18 years old am I going to continue having pricey issues with this vehicle? The mechanic did seem to think that this could be a reliable vehicle. Unfortunately I don't have much more than the repair price to my name. Is it worth it?

Opinions?

With the age certain issues will come up but those are the ones you're dealing with now. At that mileage I would expect to get many more years out of it.

If into this for low bucks I'd go for it if body is good. Just think, if you do all items needed YOU get the benefit of them being done vs having to fix a car to sell is suks,

Alright so I'm finally able to put some money into this car. But I can only afford around 500 bucks worth of services. Here's a list of what it needs:
-F brake pads/rotors
-rear wheel cylinders
-valve cover gaskets
-L and R CV axels
-Oil Pressure sensor
-Complete tune up with fuel filter
-Fuel injector

I'll probably do the brakes which seem to be priority, but what else seems to be priority here?

Yep, if you can't stop, don't go.

What is wrong with the fuel injector?

They are fairly reliable vehicles, but with the age it might nickle and dime you to death. Nice part is you don't have to worry about a timing belt and the cost associated with that.

Did you buy this vehicle already? If not, you can use your estimate as a bargaining chip to bring the offer price down.
