Recently I lost the keys to my Grand Marquis. Rather than pay a fortune to have my car towed to the locksmith, I decided to try and fix it myself.

I've drilled out the old cylinder, but the end piece of the old cylinder is broken off inside of the cylinder housing, behind a green ring.

What is the best way to extract this part so that I may install my new ignition lock cylinder and get my car back up and running?

Thanks!

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Using channel lock or locking pliers, twist ignition cap or bezel until it separates from ignition switch.
4. Using a 3/8 inch diameter drill, drill down middle of key slot, approximately 1 3/4 inches, until ignition switch lock cylinder breaks loose from breakaway base of ignition switch lock cylinder.
5. Remove lock cylinder and clean drill shavings from steering column tube flange.
6. Remove steering column upper bearing retainer, steering column lock housing bearing, ignition switch lock cylinder and steering column lock gear. Thoroughly clean all drill shavings and other foreign material from casting.
7. Install new ignition lock cylinder.

Just curious, but how are you going to unlock your doors if you don't have any keys and your battery is dead and you can't use the keypad?
