Search Auto Parts Search 1993 Mercury Cougar car accelerates strangley after it warm Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Car Troubleshooting adam035827 New User Feb 16, 2010, 8:21 PM Post #1 of 5 (1719 views) 1993 Mercury Cougar car accelerates strangley after it warm Sign In after about 20 minutes of driving my car the check engine light turns on. the car then begins to shake and accelerate much slower than it usually does, and after about 2 seconds it accelerates quickly again. the car only shakes when my foot is on the gas. it doesnt do this constantly but it does it every time i drive it longer than 20 minutes. the check engine light also turns on for a short time then off and back on again. there does not seem to be a correlation to the light and the symptoms, but they both always happen around the same time. ive replaced the spark plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap, and the transmission. ive also had my entire fuel system cleaned. any help would be appreciated. this is driving me nuts. nickwarner Veteran / Moderator Feb 17, 2010, 7:25 PM Post #2 of 5 (1709 views) Re: 1993 Mercury Cougar car accelerates strangley after it warm Sign In The engine light is coming on, therefore there are codes that tell what system is acting up. Get the codes read, post back with them and we can see what we are dealing with. Not much else we can do without that. I'm thinking more likely (still check) the TPS or connection to it is trouble. Don't just replace it on just that or be throwing parts at random as that's a waste.
