1992 chevy beretta oil leak

I have a 92 chev beretta that leaks a lot of oil. It has 125,000 miles and is a good car otherwise. It just leaves a big puddle of oil wherever you park it. Anyone out there have any experience with a beretta and the best way to find where the leak is coming from?

The source of the leak can be tricky to find. They are usually the highest and furthest forward as the source. Definately rule out oil filter and drain plug which has a gasket that may be cracked or missing.
Some other common things are oil pressure switch, valve cover gaskets, pcv system and lots more but start with that, T

Isn't there a dye I can put in the oil and a light that will show where the leak is?

There probably is and I've never used one. It's popular with A/C but regular motor oil leaks should be fairly easy to find.
To add to what I said already is a cause of oil leaks can be from a worn engine or a PCV system that doesn't work properly.
Your crankcase should run at a slight vacuum. Perhaps .5 Hg. If you don't have vacuum gauge you can test the dipsick tube with a cigarette or incense stick and the smoke should go in while running. Please use good judgment if you try that as if gasoline is around or leaking that can only be AYOR!
Wipe down all suspect areas and look for new leaks. The smallest amount of oil can make a big mess so you do need to start with clean, T

Your best bet is to have the entire engine steam cleaned and check for your oil leak. You should be able to find it easily with a clean engine.

check your fron and rear main seals. top and bottom too. happened to my tercel once. one messy job but well worth the effort. darrin

Update on the oil leak. After doing some more searching I found what others had said was a common source of oil leaks on the chevy v6 motors. Mine is a 3.1 liter v6. It no longer has a distributor but it has a shaft where the distributor used to be that runs the oil pump. Anyway the o ring betweent the shaft and the block tends to go bad. I took the car to the car wash and cleaned off the motor. I found the leak pretty quickly. You have to pull throttle body off, at least I think that's what it is. It is the thing on the intake with the butterfly in it. Anyway that has to come off and the fuel lines have to come loose to get the shaft pulled out. I went to the autoparts store and found an o ring that fits (1/8 inch diam) and now, no more oil leak.
