1992 Pontiac Grand Am - Gas Gauge drops and engine stumbles Sign In

Year of vehicle: 1992
Make of vehicle: Pontiac
Model of vehicle Grand Am
Engine size: 1.6L
Mileage: 58,000

I feel like this will be a simple diagnosis, I just can't figure out how to word the search. The vehicle will be running fine, then randomly the gas gauge will drop to empty and the vehicle will begin stumbling (almost like it actually is out of fuel). After a few seconds the gas gauge will return to it's true level and the motor will run fine once more. Nothing lead up to this problem, it just started doing it. I have not tried anything yet, as it just started happening the other day.

Thank you in advance for your help Smile

You may have a bad fuel pump but check the connectors going to it first for clean and solid contacts.

Also check the ground for the fuel tank wiring.

PS, if you are in the US, there is no 1.6 engine in that car.
