Problem: Vehicle is running too rich. 115,000
*No more that 11 mpg on a full tank.
*Black smoke is coming from the exhaust.
*Engine will not reach normal operating temperature(according the the temp. gauge, hoses and radiator and hot to the touch, system has pressure, hose going to engine does not seem to have fluid).
*Heat will work.
*Fan will not kick on.
*After a few minutes the vehicle will idle rough(sometimes the rpm's will jump up and down between 500-1100 while at idle).
*The oil level rises. Gas seems to be mixing with the oil.

I have replaced the air filter, spark plugs and wires. I have used seafoam and lucas fuel system treatment. The car will start up right away and drives great. What is wrong?

You apparently have a number of different issues that will have to be tackled individually. I would start out with the temperature, probably changing the thermostat. After that I would check the fuel pressure and see if it holds rest pressure when shut off to see if you may have an injector leaking. Change that oil before you do anything though.

Thanks for the quick replySly
What do you think about the coolant temperature sensor being bad?
I want to check the fuel pressure but auto zone wants a 250$ deposit for the gauge.

Your going to need a scanner to determine that. I would change the thermostat anyway. It's the only way you know it's good.

could i take it out and stick it in a pot of water 200 deg. and see if it opens up. Is this a good way to test the thermostat?

Why bother? It costs $10. It should get a new one at regular intervals anyway.
