Hi all, I have a 1991 mighty max, 4cyl. 2wd, 5-speed and I use it around town, to the dump and home again usually. It runs fantastic as I've had the engine rebuilt... the only thing is I live in NM and it gets pretty hot. I have been considering AC but the truck has never had AC in it... just wondering if its more difficult then it's worth. I don't plan on buying another truck for a long time as I don't really use this often enough but only because it get's so hot during the day. Any ideas on cost, components, etc. that I need, or recommendations? I"m not a mechanic so I'd probably get someone to do it for me. Thanks for your time.

It would be cheaper to buy another truck that had AC.

Adding A/C to a truck that never had it has lots of actual value/cost. It ends up being a bit Mickey Mouse too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Here's an idea Jokin Some aftermarket companies like Vintage air sell universal ac kits that a lot of people install in classics and mods. Maybe you could get hold of a salesperson and tell them what you have. I know it probably won't be cheap though. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

So I'm a bit confused by your response of "actual value/cost". I realize there will be a cost factor, but what do you mean by actual value? One other thing that's happened recently is the "slider control" arm that moves between the hot and "cool" will no longer slide completely over to the "cool' side, so now I'm also having hot air blowing in because the slider arm is "stuck" in the middle. It will stay on the heat side but not the cool side. Any ideas?

LOL... well if it keeps me cool in this heat, I might consider it!

That was a way of saying that the cost would be excessive.

Ok gotcha... thanks for the input. Maybe I'll resign myself to purchasing a new truck.
