1991 Buick Riviera Sputtering/Missing Sign In

Hi guys,

I think this might be only my second time posting on here, but let me first thank you for reading this and hopefully helping me out. :)

I have a beautiful 1991 Buick Riviera, V6, power everything, a total beast! I got it used about 5 years ago with only 70k miles, and now I'm up to around 100k.

So, my problems:

1. The dreaded "00 ERROR" instrument panel issue. Looks like I have no choice but to replace the instrument panel. A couple of hundred bucks it looks like they sell for. How big of a nightmare is it going to be to install?

2. In the past month or so I've had a little bit of a sputtering/cutting-out issue. It starts right up, but especially when it's not 100% warmed up, it just feels like it's missing or something. I'm not really sure how to describe it. It does NOT seem to happen more at certain RPMs or speed or anything, it just almost sort of feels like it's starting to run out of gas or something. I replaced the spark plugs, no luck. Then I thought maybe the fuel filter just wasn't quite letting enough gas through, so after finally getting this beast of a car up on jack stands I rolled the bones with my life and got under, replaced the fuel filter (after a very painful and miserable BLAST of gasoline straight to my eyes and face), and that made no difference. So now I'm thinking what the hell, maybe a bad fuel injector?

I guess I'm just hoping someone out there has some ideas on where I should go next. :)

Thanks guys!

The dash cluster is no big deal. It's a 30 minute job.

As far as the running part, you're not supplying enough detail to determine anything.

I know someone won't be able to tell me exactly what the problem is, but what I was thinking is maybe someone could describe what steps they'd take in trying to troubleshoot the issue. Someone suggested disconnecting a fuel injector and driving and seeing if I can isolate it that way. One by one.

chetwynd! Be careful, wear goggles when called for. No car is worth going blind over getting sprayed with fuel or whatever. That and properly placed jack stands when working underneath. Always beware when removing a fuel filter or disconnecting anything fuel related.

Need more help to determine cause of misfiring issue. Could be spark/ignition issues or fuel issues. Generally not both at once so check what you can to isolate which. Fuel pressure needs to be up to par. If pressure is running low most will also be hard to start then run poorly if low pressure.

Ignition side. Problems with anything to do with it from distributor parts including shaft bearings/bushings and all items on to known good spark plugs. It might be and probably is worth getting a professional diagnostic done and decide from that if you want to tackle it from there,
