1990 Ford Chinook won't start with jump start, ignition feels loose. Sign In

Hi guys,

I have a 1990 Ford chinook RV, V8. 117k Miles.

Yesterday, it wouldn't start and it was giving every symptom of a dead battery, so I jump started the battery with another portable battery I have. The engine successfully started after a little bit and I was thinking I would leave the batteries connected with the jump cables for a little longer to give it more juice. But at the same time I had to move from the spot I was in that was blocking my friend's driveway so I drove the vehicle 30 feet forward WHILE still connected with jump cables to the portable battery.
Once in the right spot I turned off the engine and left the portable battery still connected for a little longer.
Then later I tried turning on the engine and nothing, it seemed completely dead with the added detail that this time the ignition felt very hard with the key.
After trying to jump start it with another car, nothing, absolutely dead, but after doing that, now the ignition feels abnormally loose. Also while jumpstarting it the last time I noticed that lights when open the door where extremely dim.

Looking back at it I'm thinking the only unusual thing I did was driving with the portable battery still connected, I feel like it might have messed something up with the electrical system of the car.

Let me know your thoughts, thank you!

Sounds like a pretty obvious problem with the ignition switch or related linkage. I doubt that other battery had anything at all to do with the problem.
