Hello fellow petrolheads. I drive a 740 from '88 with the b230f engine.
I changed the timing belt with a friend of mine. Afterwards I tried to start the engine twice which didn't work. I've never heard a sound like this before, like the engine was trying to turn but couldn't.

After checking every step we noticed that the crankshaft bolt wasn't tightened properly. We used only 60nm(44lb ft), although it needs another 60 degrees of turning. Bodged it. Well, the engine is non-interference, but I don't know if this caused any damage.
As I'm 23 and only mildly experienced, I greatly appreciate any help on how to proceed. I really do like my car

I don't know where you ever got the idea that is not an interference engine because it most certainly is as is every Volvo engine in that era.

I can pretty much guarantee you have a ton of bent valves now.

Even though the internet argues over this one,the 2.3l SOHC B230 with fuel injection should be non-interference. Apart from the valves and the alignment, do I have to worry about something else?

OH, the Internet is never wrong. My info came from Alldata which comes from the Volvo service manual.

Isn't a bunch of bent valves enough to worry about?

Just a tip here. After you do the valve job and reinstall your timing belt slowly rotate the crankshaft by hand, clockwise, and be sure you can make 2 revolutions of the crank without binding or it locking up. If you feel a catch, stop and recheck your work.
